The successful development of PCD has brought tremendous changes to the wire drawing industry, and it has made the entire processing process more efficient and stable. PCD is made of micron-sized diamond particles and bond sintered under high temperature and high pressure. It has the advantages of high hardness, good wear resistance, and strong impact resistance.

The mold uses the advantages of uniform wear and long life. It is suitable for High-speed drawing. Because PCD is macroscopically isotropic, it will not have uneven die hole wear and out-of-round die holes like single crystal diamond. In addition, because the price of PCD is much lower than that of single crystal diamond, it has been widely used in the wire drawing industry. Most of the diamond wire drawing dies use PCD wire drawing cores.

At present, most diamond wire drawing dies use PCD wire drawing blanks. Depending on the different bonds, PCD blanks can be classified into cobalt-based and silicon-based.

The cobalt-based PCD blank contains the metal bond and has a good processability. It can be processed by EDM (electrical discharge machining), laser, ultrasonic technology.

But the presence of metal cobalt makes the diamond easy to graphitize at high temperatures, so the cobalt-based PCD blank is suitable to be processed and used at temperatures below 650 ºC.
